Officially presented during the Worthersee annual event, the Golf R Cabrio is about to catch the VW production line, due to the sympathy wave it attracted. Even though an official decision hasn’t been yet made, the Golf R Cabrio project is taken into consideration by the Volkswagen management board.
According to the manufacturer the 270 HP engine, which powers the coupe version, could also be added to the convertible, which will be produced in a limited edition before 2014, because that’s the year when Euro 6 will be implemented, which the current engine, known as EA113, won’t meet.
Volkswagen won’t modify the EA113 engine but it will replace it with the EA888, the 2.0 liter found on the Golf GTI, which will eventually make room for sportier versions and also for the Golf MK7.
Prices or specifications of the convertible Golf R remain unknown, as well as possible release date.
