It looks like the Audi Q5 will have a formidable foe in that race for performance luxury SUV. The 2014 Porsche Macan will debut at the 2013 LA Auto Show. Its chasis will be based on the Q5’s, but will be made entirely of aluminum, to save about 285 pounds or so. It will share a similar drivetrain to the Q5’s, sending power to all four wheels.

As Porsche has done in the past, variants such as an “S” model and hybrids often are seen later on in the model year. The Macan has been proposed to be the smaller brother of the larger Cayenne, sort of the iPhone 5C to that of the 5S. Expect starting prices around $38,000 to start, which would be around $20,000 less than the Cayenne.

Check back later in November for the official details and pictures.
